Another Yarn

Name:

Just a blog between three friends, one a knitter who sometimes crochets (or so it seems), one a crocheter who struggles to learn knitting, and the other who crochets, has tried knitting and is simply a lurker on here. :) Feel free to follow along as we discuss projects, struggles, and rewards of the fiber arts.

Yarn studio!

Good morning ladies,

Well, as both of you now know, in 2 months I'll be moving in with John. One of the benefits to this (besides, of course, living with the love of my life) is that he is insisting I take one of the bedrooms for a yarn studio. This has been an ongoing discussion since we first started talking about my moving in and now it has moved to the point of picking out the room, picking out the paint, and discussing storage options. It has a large closet and an open area above it so he's going to knock out the drywall above the closet to build me a display shelf. Anytime I mention a storage unit (yes, I'm gonna go with those X shaped shelves we all love) he tells me, "Just give me plans for it and we'll build it."

So, here are the plans for the room so far: I want to put deep shelves in the closet so I can put tubs of yarn and yarn supplies in there. The shelf above will hold all kinds of doodads (I need to get some doodads, I suppose). I'm gonna build the X shelves along one wall (probably the one that shares the closet). Then I'm gonna have a table that I can clamp my swift, yarn meter, and yarn winder to as well as use for blocking. My parents have a rattan chaise lounger that I'm gonna put under the window along with the daytime lamp for working at night. I'm gonna put a bookcase in there for all my books and the cubbie thing I got before for holding current projects.

And just for the record, the reason he wants me to have a yarn studio? Because he knows I want to design so he wants me to have a space to work in and draw inspiration from and be able to design. Is there any question as to why I love this man? Pictures, of course, will show up here as I get closer to being finished. :)

Have a glorious day,
Tracie

Socks (plural), a sweater and Real Knitting

Ladies,

First off, Dani I like your hair, very cute and great for the summer.
Second off... I now have 2 socks done. Yeah! They are now living in my closet waiting to find a home at Christmas. I think I know who they'll go to but we'll have to see. I had started that crochet sock, and it didnt really work - following the directions best as I could wouldnt make it look remotely like a human foot. I'll frog it soon and try again - maybe I can find another, better-written crocheted sock pattern. We'll have to see.
I finally got a pic of Stacy in her sweater and you can see the cables pretty well. I really like how it looks, and it actually fits! And she likes it, which is all that really matters, so they claim!

And I have started Christmas Present #4. It will be a skull cap for Jake's God-Brother, with skulls around the bottom. This is Real Knitting, Fair Isle... fancy schmancy. Wish me luck. Here's what it looks like Right Now...

That would be a chart... and 2 strands of yarn attached and stitch markers of different colors to tell me different things, and I did gauge. With a swatch. Worked in the pattern. Should I wait for you to sit before I continue? LOL. Anyway, it's going ok so far, but wish me luck.
And finally I'll leave you with this:

That's Jake riding a bike with on ly 2 wheels!
Have a great day!

Talent, just pure talent!!

If you read back a few posts or two you'll read about Tra and her skirt. Well we had our monthly crochet get together and in walks Tra wearing her work. I must say she looks terrific!!! But you be the judge *grin*

Tra I personally think it looks smashing and some of your very best work. I can't wait to see what wearable you'll make next.

ohhh and by the way my next post will be all about me and the loss of 7 1/2 inches of hair, yes I did say 7 1/2 inches all at once!! I'm still mourning the loss but it's growing on me.
